10 Songs You Need To Hear This Week: Frank Ocean, Mura Masa, Amy Shark And More

Written By Sam Murphy on 03/17/2017

Milky Chance’s new album is out today. Here are 10 things more exciting than that. We’ve got a far more extensive list too if you’d like to see that?

10. Mike Will Made It – Come Up (Feat. Big Sean)

Producer Mike Will Made It is gearing up to release his feature-heavy Ransom II record and this is taken from it. The Big Sean collab would’ve fit in perfectly on I Decided.. It’s a dark, heavy track that broods with operatic vocals weaved into the beat.

9. Amy Shark – Weekends

Amy Shark has the unenviable task of backing up Adore which came in at number two in the triple j Hottest 100 and she’s doing it with Weekends. The intimate, warm track possesses some of the same qualities of its predecessor but tells a different story. Once again, she wins by being completely honest and raw.

8. Tinashe – Flame

Last we heard from Tinashe, she dropped her Nightride mixtape but she’s back now, working on her next album Joyride and Flame looks to be from it. It’s a powerful, late night jam with a hook that radio’s likely to eat up, erring more to pop than anything on Nightride.

7. Lastlings – Stranger

Gold Coast duo Lastlings released their Verses EP today and Stranger is taken from it. The brother/sister pair just continue to grow at a rapid pace and this track is one of their most interesting, boundary-pushing releases to date. The beat pulsates and the vocals soar making the results pretty thrilling.

6. Kidepo – Water

London-based singer Kidepo has made a big splash this week with his latest single Water. The ode to being, “young and directionless,” as he described it, is a heavy, escalating song tinged with elements of gospel and soul. You won’t forget the voice in a hurry either.

5. MUTO – Wildfire

Sydney producer MUTO has had a string of impressive releases but his latest Wildfire feels like his true arrival. Featuring the soulful vocals of Deutsche Duke, it’s a refreshingly unpredictable track with some really luscious production that shines through in the chorus.

4. First Hate – Copenhagen

First Hate are a Danish band getting ready to release their debut album in May and Copenhagen is from it. The warm track is an ode to “Copenhagen nights,” detailing the hazy part of the night when you ask yourself, “Why did I stay this long?” It’s a really interesting pop song that perfectly captures feelings of euphoria and regret simultaneously.

3. Allday – In Motion (Feat. Japanese Wallpaper)

Allday has collided with Aussie producer Japanese Wallpaper on his latest single In Motion and it really works. The pair are from different worlds musically but they’ve both met in the middle for this beautifully melodic, effortless track. Vocally Allday kills it, choosing to sing more than rap and Japanese Wallpaper delivers one of his more accessible dates.

2. Mura Masa – 1 Night (Feat. Charli XCX)

Mura Masa and Charli XCX have collabed on a new song 1 Night taken from the British producers forthcoming album. He took to Twitter to announce that the album is “finished” slightly after dropping this newie which may be his most delectable single yet. 1 Night proves once again how adaptable Charli XCX is as she slots in effortlessly over the glassy, steel drum-laden beat that Mura has so carefully constructed.

1. Frank Ocean – Chanel

Frank unexpectedly dropped a newie over the weekend, playing it on repeat from an hour on BLONDED RADIO. We’d be annoyed hearing most songs that many times but it did Chanel justice. It’s such an intricate and melodically unpredictable song that repeat listens only reveal more to this gorgeous track.
