You already know what’s number one.
11. Trippie Redd – Negative Energy (Feat. Kodie Shane)
Trippie Redd and Kodie Shane both released records today and they both feature on each others. Negative Energy is on Trippie’s and it encapsulates the softer rap side of both artists perfectly. We love a tender moment.
10. DAWN – New Breed
DAWN will release a new album next year inspired by her New Orleans roots and this is the title track. It sees her match her experimental electronica with a throwback RnB vibe, once again creating a sound that’s uniquely hers.
9. Donatachi – In Love (Feat. Rosebud)
Donatachi has our sugar hit for the week with In Love, a mind-bending pop song that manages to feel both superficial and honest. It’s bubbly and strange but strikes straight at the heart from the first listen.
8. Montaigne – For Your Love
Montaigne is finally back and showing off that limitless voice. For You Love is the most mature thing she’s ever done. The production is sublime and her lyrics are unfiltered, straight from mouth to microphone.
7. Arno Faraji – Things Change
Arno Faraji is ready to kick things into another gear. Things Change is his most accessible cut to date. It’s a funky ear worm that shows he can handle any beat thrown at him. It’s charismatic and right where he needs to be right now.
6. Earl Sweatshirt – Nowhere2go
Earl doesn’t release much these days but when he does it’s quality. Nowhere2go is a short, anxiety-ridden cut that features some of his most experimental production to date. This is sonically on another level to anything that’s happening in hip-hop right now.
5. Cupcakke – Prenup
Cupcakke dropped her new record Eden today and it features this Latin moment. It’s Cupcakke giving us her best Cardi B I Like It and nailing it while detailing the advantage of prenups. Cupcakke is the only MC right now that could pull off something like this.
4. Juice WRLD – Armed & Dangerous
Juice WRLD is proving himself to be one of the most melodic hip-hop artists around right now and he’s struck again with Armed & Dangerous. It’s immediately accessible with a hook that takes it into banger territory.
3. Hi Life – Slide (Feat. Harvie)
Hi Life only have a handful of releases to their name but each of them have been incredible. The duo popped another out today and it’s a sparkling, sparse song that hits you right in the feels. It takes their PC Music vibe further into the pop realm giving it serious radio potential.
2. Anderson .Paak – Who R U
Anderson .Paak’s got bars on his latest track off his forthcoming album Oxnard. Who R U is short but potent putting Paak in rapper mode more than any other song off the record yet.
1. Ariana Grande – thank u, next
Ariana surprised us all with thank u, next last week, a breakup song that takes a positive slant. It’s on track to become her biggest song to date and rightfully so because it’s so bloody good. On paper, it’s a vintage RnB song but in reality Ariana takes it into another realm with her wisdom and honesty.
