Throughout it all, we’ve always stuck with Lana Del Rey but recently she seems to have really hit her stride.
She’s gearing up to release her new album Norman Fucking Rockwell, which she’s been working on with Jack Antonoff, and the latest drop from it Hope Is A Dangerous Thing For A Women Like Me To Have – But I Do is a masterpiece.
It’s a brooding ballad not dissimilar to Lust For Life‘s Change but this one is perhaps even darker. It’s sad and, at times, nihilistic but there’s this silver lining of hope that she depicts so beautifully.
What strikes most about this latest drop though is how good Lana’s lyrics have gotten. From “I’ve been tearing around in my fucking nightgown / 24/7 Sylvia Plath” to “Shaking my ass is the only thing that’s / Got this black narcissist off my back,” it feels as if she’s finally reached the point of expression to fulfil to Del Rey vision she’s always worked towards.
There’s still no release date set for Norman Fucking Rockwell but it couldn’t come sooner.
