If you haven’t come across Los Leo yet, it’s time we caught you up. The Adelaide-based artist has been releasing music for the past three years but he’s hitting his stride right now with a string of excellent singles.
The End is the latest one and it’s a crisp pop song that presents as a groove-infused bop but there’s a depth to it.
“I’ve seen the end and it’s far too close,” he sings, detailing a struggle with mental health. While he’s hesitant to delve into, Los Leo has faced health problems over the past few years but he’s found an outlet in music and The End beautifully shows the juxtaposition between the light and the dark.
Instrumentally, The End is uplifting. It sizzles with a synth-driven warmth before it climaxes with a positive chorus that sounds like Phil Collins meets LANY.
The second comparison makes the most sense as he’s supported the band on their recent Australian tour. LANY are also an act making pop music out of heavy circumstances while still finding the light.
Previous single False Start was a breakthrough for Los Leo, shining with its warm synths but he’s changed things up a bit for this one.
“We wanted to switch the sound up a bit, so we decided to spend as much time as possible outside of the computer,” he said.
Computer or no computer, Los Leo is quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising new names in local pop.
