Triple J Unearthed High winner Japanese Wallpaper unveils ‘Between Friends’

Between Friends (ft. Jesse Davidson)

Last month, 17 year-old Gab Strum better known as Japanese Wallpaper took out Triple J’s Unearthed High and he’s carrying on with the momentum of that releasing a new tune, Between Friends. The sprawling, starry-eyed track features the vocals of Adelaide singer, Jesse Davidson who’s been releasing some stellar tunes of his own recently. Together the pair prove that age is just a number. Between Friends is a mature, well-constructed track that’s emotionally connected as well as intricately produced. Just like Breathe In, this one has some serious potential to further catapult Japanese Wallpaper onto people’s radar.

Read here why Japanese Wallpaper is one of the next homegrown artists to make it overseas.

Ferdinand Weber remixes LANY’S, ‘ILYSB’

We loved LANY so bad back when they first premiered ILYSB (I love you so bad) and BRB and now we’re falling in love all over again with Ferdinand Weber‘s funked-up remix. Taking it from bedroom to dancefloor, Weber’s sunny version is the perfect tune to take you into the weekend.

The Preatures release new single, ‘Somebody’s Talking’ & album release date

There’s certainly somebody talking, and that’s the fans of The Preatures who woke up this morning to an official release date for their album as well as a new single from said album. After Two Tone Melody soothed our ears and calmed our souls a few months back, Somebody’s Talking is one to get you up and moving again with a bouncy tempo shining through the Sydney outfit’s signature ’80s-inspired pop rock sound. Driven by a groovy guitar riff, it is the closest thing to Is This How You Feel yet.

Blue Planet Eyes is out on September 26 in Australia.

Avec Sans remix ‘Running Up That Hill’ in honour of Kate Bush’s return

After running up that hill for an arduous 35 years, Kate Bush has finally made it back to the stage, once again gracing London’s Hammersmith Apollo with her presence. The first of 22 sold out shows, it was said to be “a triumphant, hit-filled and characteristically theatrical return to the stage.” In honour of the short-but-sweet return of the 56-year-old British singer, London electric duo, Avec Sans have covered one of her more well-known tracks, Running Up That Hill. With no plans for new material nor a plan to arrive on Australian shores, this electro-inspired remix is the next best thing to experiencing the eclectic singer in the modern day.

Olympic Ayres drop single ‘Say My Name’ ahead of EP launch and national tour

No, it’s not a cover of Destiny’s Child. It is, however, the third single from Olympic Ayres’ debut EP, Leisureplex. This dreamy synth-pop number has a more funk-induced electronica focus than their earlier numbers and it seems to be working in their favour. Those in Brisbane can expect to see the duo and hear their lush beats at this year’s upcoming BIGSOUND Conference. Those elsewhere will have to wait for their tour in October.

Leisureplex is due for release in Australia on September 18th

SOPHIE & A.G. Cook team up for ‘Hey QT’

British producer SOPHIE had us all either completely confused or pining for more sugary sweet goodness after releasing previous singles, Lemonade and Hard. Meanwhile, A.G.Cook had us asking ‘What the f**k is PC Music?‘ with comparisons to Dance Dance Revolution, Nintendo, Korea and Siri being thrown around.

Now, the two have joined forces to create Hey QT and the combined result seems to make so much sense. Bubbling with energy and the signature inhuman vocals, the track is shameless, addictive fun that’s sure to get even the most PC Music-confused people moving.

While it’s claimed that ‘QT’ is the girl in the above picture, the true identity of ‘her’ remains a mystery with the following released statement not shedding any more light on the enigma:

So what, or who, is QT? She’s a sparkling future pop sensation – albeit one who is set to warp and stretch the notion of what a pop star actually is. It’s a drink, or more precisely a brand new Energy Elixir (“where organic and synthetic meet to stimulate an uplifting club sensation”). And it’s a song, a moment – “Hey QT” – which sees these two producers pushing their sound to its very extreme and creating a future anthem in the process.”

Described as “a sparkling future pop sensation” by SOPHIE and A.G.Cook themselves, whatever ‘QT’ may be, is sure to be sure making waves on the dancefloor in due time.

Listen to Hey QT below but we recommend you experience the full QT ‘Elixir’ experience here.

Ryan Hemsworth & Tomggg drop ‘Cream Soda’

A bit of fun for your Wednesday morning, served up in the form of the sugary sweet Cream Soda. Along with dropping the news of three Japan tour dates, Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth has further proved Japan’s influence on Western Electronica by releasing his latest collaboration with Japanese producer Tomggg. With the character of an 8-bit video game, the bubbly track features effervescent instrumentals and chirpy sound samples with the backing marching drum being the perfect cherry on top of the Cream Soda.

The duo’s latest track is available for a free download from Soundcloud.

Hear Abhi//Dijon’s brooding RnB EP

Distant Love

It seems inevitable that eventually the RnB revival will become over-crowded but while there is still new music this good trickling out, the more the merrier. The latest finessed RnB EP comes courtesy of producer/singer duo Abhi//Dijon. The two sound like a toned-down version of Jeremih and Shlohmo with atmospheric beats and a voice that’s whispy yet still stands above the instrumentation. The self-titled, four-track EP is a tight collection of mid-tempos that rarely raises the heartbeat but often weakens the knees. The highlight is Distant Love, a pulsating track softened by warming keys.

Airling releases new single, ‘Wasted Pilots’

Certainly not my first choice of who should fly my plane, Wasted Pilots instead has been the perfect antidote to this dreary Tuesday afternoon. Airling‘s ethereal voice reigns supreme atop washes of heavenly synths, lush electronics and fluttering percussion. This is the second single from the Brisbane-based artist’s upcoming EP, Love Gracefully, and it’s certainly a sign of exciting things to come. Airling is performing at this year’s BIGSOUND as well as touring Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in October.

Love Gracefully EP is due for release September 19th

Shura remixes Jessie Ware’s ‘Say You Love Me’

Jessie Ware - Say You Love Me (Shura Remix)

This is the best delivery we could’ve hoped for on a Saturday. British artist Shura‘s who’s made quite an indent on this site with Touch and Just Once has remixed Jessie Ware’s most recent single, Say You Love MeWhile many applauded the original for its crossover appeal, others complained the track didn’t reach the heights of Tough Love. This remix should appeal to the latter, as Shura strips the track back and adds dark synths and mournful beats to take the song into a whole other place. Gone are the warm guitar plucks, instead we’re presented with a much more desolate version. It’s pretty spectacular.
